Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd commemorated its elevation to Navratna status with the release of a Special Cover with Cancellation & My Stamp on 17 July 2026 in Kolkata.
The Special Cover was released by Ashok Kumar in the presence of senior officials from GRSE and India Post. Reflecting GRSE’s tradition of inclusive engagement, the ceremony was also attended by the company’s senior-most employee, Bikash Das, and its youngest officer, Rup Pratim Ghatak.
GRSE was granted Navratna status by the Department of Public Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, in June 2026, recognising its consistent financial and operational performance. The milestone underscores the shipyard’s operational excellence, financial strength, and strategic importance within India’s defence ecosystem.
The company’s financial growth over the past five years highlights its strong trajectory, with revenue from operations rising from ₹1,754 crore in FY 2021-22 to ₹7,002 crore in FY 2025-26. Profit After Tax (PAT) also increased significantly during this period, from ₹190 crore to ₹748 crore.
A key contributor to the Government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, GRSE has delivered over 800 marine platforms, including 118 warships to the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations over the past 66 years—the highest by any shipyard in the country. It delivered India’s first indigenous warship, INS Ajay, in 1961, and later built the country’s first export warship, CGS Barracuda for Mauritius.
In 2025-26, GRSE delivered eight warships, including three commissioned on the same day—INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray—by Narendra Modi on 21 June 2026.
The shipyard is currently building 30 platforms, including nine warships and 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German client, as well as four research vessels for key scientific institutions. With its newly acquired Navratna status, GRSE is set to expand capacity through brownfield and greenfield projects to support future naval and commercial shipbuilding programmes.
