The National Cadet Corps (NCC) organised Cyclothon 2026 in New Delhi on August 2, 2026, to commemorate the 79th anniversary of India’s Independence. The initiative promoted fitness, environmental responsibility and sustainable living while reinforcing the values of patriotism, discipline, unity and national service.

The Cyclothon was flagged off by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, boxer M C Mary Kom and tennis player Leander Paes. Director General NCC Lieutenant General Virendra Vats led 79 NCC cadets on a symbolic 79-kilometre ride. The ride began and concluded at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, covering a route through prominent landmarks of the national capital.

Organised under the theme “Clean India, Green India, Fit India,” the Cyclothon reaffirmed NCC’s commitment to national initiatives including TB Mukt Bharat, Swachh Bharat, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and Har Ghar Tiranga. It also encouraged cycling as an environmentally friendly and sustainable mode of transport while promoting environmental conservation, reducing carbon emissions and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Beyond being a sporting event, NCC Cyclothon 2026 served as a platform to raise awareness about physical fitness, environmental stewardship, road safety and responsible citizenship. The initiative encouraged young people to embrace discipline, teamwork, resilience and community service, contributing to the vision of a stronger, healthier and greener India.
