American Rheinmetall has been awarded an 18-month contract under the U.S. Army’s Project Sustainment programme, executed through the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC), to deliver next-generation uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) capabilities that support tactical sustainment operations and broader Army modernisation efforts.
Under the programme, American Rheinmetall will provide hybrid-powered autonomous UGVs designed to support company-sized sustainment missions. The vehicles will transport supplies to and from forward positions, reducing risk to soldiers while improving operational efficiency in contested environments.
Project Sustainment focuses on advancing autonomy, commercial technologies and hybrid propulsion, while introducing capabilities such as voice control to improve human-machine interaction. Development and testing will be carried out across multiple U.S. facilities and test ranges.
American Rheinmetall is partnering with Harbinger, Forterra and Primordial Labs on the programme. Harbinger will contribute commercial vehicle technology and manufacturing expertise, Forterra will provide autonomous navigation capabilities for mission-aware operations, and Primordial Labs will integrate its Anura human-machine interface, enabling operators to control robotic systems through natural language voice commands.

The contract includes the potential for follow-on orders as the U.S. Army continues to modernise its autonomous logistics fleet.
