ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel, has been commissioned into the Bharatiya Tatrakshak Fleet at Goa Shipyard Limited in Goa, marking another step in the force’s modernisation efforts.
Named Akshay, meaning “Indestructible,” the vessel reflects the enduring spirit, resilience, and commitment of the Bharatiya Tatrakshak in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. It is designed to enhance operational readiness in ensuring safe, secure, and clean seas while protecting India’s vast maritime domain.
The vessel is equipped to carry out a wide range of Coast Guard operations, including maritime law enforcement, coastal security, search and rescue missions, marine environmental protection, and assistance to mariners in distress.
ICGS Akshay was commissioned by an Additional Secretary from the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, in the presence of senior officials including the Commander of Coast Guard Region (West), Deputy Director General (HRD), and other dignitaries from central and state governments.
Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, the vessel stands as a strong example of indigenous shipbuilding and reinforces the Government’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Its induction further strengthens India’s maritime security capabilities and domestic shipbuilding ecosystem.
