The keel-laying ceremony of the fourth of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs), which Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is constructing for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), was held in Mumbai.

The vessel is being indigenously designed, developed, and constructed by MDL with modern machinery and state-of-the-art systems, in line with the Government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard and MDL, highlighting the continued collaboration between the user agency and the shipbuilding industry in strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.

The contract for the construction of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels was signed on December 20, 2023. The programme marks a significant step in enhancing the operational capability of the Indian Coast Guard and reinforcing coastal security.

Once inducted, the NGOPVs are expected to significantly strengthen maritime surveillance, patrolling efficiency, and response capability across India’s coastline, contributing to overall maritime security and strategic autonomy.
