L3Harris Technologies has expanded its Advanced Manufacturing Facility-South (AMF-South) in Huntsville, Alabama, with a $25 million investment, adding 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space to support increased production capacity.
The expansion brings the company’s total footprint in Huntsville to approximately 670,000 square feet across three sites. The AMF-South facility is designed to scale production rapidly by leveraging existing infrastructure.
“The additional space allows us to lean forward and surge capacity in a way that directly aligns with the Department of War’s demand for critical munition acceleration,” said Ken Bedingfield, President, Missile Solutions, L3Harris. “Huntsville’s expansion at AMF-South gives us the flexibility we need to grow quickly and continue delivering for our customers.”
The development builds on sustained investments in the Huntsville region, including a significant increase in capital expenditure between 2024 and 2025. The site currently supports more than half of L3Harris’ solid rocket motor programmes through inert component production, with output continuing to rise.
The expanded facility will support the production of critical components for missile systems, strengthening supply chain capacity and responsiveness to growing defence requirements.
L3Harris is also expanding its workforce in Huntsville, with hiring underway for roles across mechanical and manufacturing engineering, project engineering, quality, and skilled trades such as machinists and composite technicians.
