Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-300 unmanned air system has been selected as the airborne platform for the European Defence Fund-backed SWORD project, aimed at advancing stand-off anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

Led by TKMS ATLAS ELEKTRONIK, the SWORD (Stand-off Anti-Submarine Warfare Operations by Remote Deployment) programme will develop an integrated system-of-systems enabling naval forces to detect, track, classify and neutralise submerged threats through a complete sensor-to-shooter chain. The 36-month initiative brings together leading European defence and technology partners to advance next-generation anti-submarine warfare concepts.

As part of the consortium, Schiebel will contribute its CAMCOPTER S-300, a heavy-lift vertical take-off and landing unmanned platform designed for extended endurance and high payload capacity, supporting complex maritime missions and advanced sensor deployment.

The selection reflects the growing importance of unmanned systems in naval operations, particularly for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance roles across maritime and land-based environments.

“We are proud that the CAMCOPTER® S-300 has been selected for this important European Defence initiative,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group. “SWORD is a great example of European cooperation in a highly relevant maritime defence domain. The selection of the S-300 highlights the platform’s potential to support future anti-submarine warfare concepts with a flexible, unmanned and operationally efficient capability.”

The SWORD project is supported by the European Defence Fund and aims to strengthen collaborative defence research and innovation across Europe.
